Teach where the work is still remembered
St. John's has been staffed, for four decades, by people who wanted more from a job than a salary slip. If that sounds like you — teacher, administrator, librarian or warden — the school office would like to read your CV.

No post is advertised at this moment. We still read every application that arrives, keep it on file, and turn to that file first when a vacancy opens mid-session.
Why St. John's
Six reasons teachers stay for decades
Barama is a small town, and this is not a large school. Both of those turn out to be the point.
A school with a spine
Founded in 1985 and run on one principle since — education without heart is no education at all. You inherit four decades of goodwill on your first day.
Colleagues, not competitors
A staff room of 49 teachers who cover for one another, share notes and lesson plans, and treat a new appointment as an addition rather than a rival.
Freedom in the classroom
Teach the syllabus your way. Bring a project, a lab activity, a reading club or a new method — the school backs teachers who try things.
Work that shows
Johnians reach state merit lists and come back years later to say who taught them. In a school this size, your contribution is visible and it is credited.
Room to grow
Encouragement — and time — for higher qualifications, subject training and workshops, with responsibility given to those who are ready for it.
A purpose worth the commute
You will teach the first-generation learners of the BTR region, for whom a good teacher genuinely changes what is possible.
Where We Appoint
Three kinds of post, one staff room
A school is not run by its teachers alone. These are the roles St. John's appoints against — and applications for any of them go to the same address.
Teachers — LKG to Class XII
Assamese, Bengali, English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Computer Science and the Higher Secondary Science and Arts subjects.
PGT · TGT · Primary & pre-primary teachers
Office & administrative staff
Accounts, admissions and records, front desk and correspondence — the desks that keep a school of this size running to time.
Accountant · Office assistant · Receptionist
Support & residential staff
Library, laboratory, computer lab, sports coaching and the supervised boys' hostel, where wardens live the school's routine alongside the students.
Librarian · Lab assistant · Hostel warden · Coach
Posts are filled as they fall vacant, most often in the weeks before a new session begins. An application already on file is the surest way to be considered.
What We Look For
Qualification opens the door. Temperament keeps you here.
Every appointment at St. John's is measured against the same handful of things — and only the first of them appears on a certificate.
- A degree in the subject you wish to teach, with B.Ed. or D.El.Ed. where the post requires it
- Clear command of the language of instruction — English, and Assamese for the primary section
- Patience with a mixed-ability classroom, and the will to keep the slowest child moving
- Willingness to take a club, a hostel duty or an examination responsibility
- Honesty about what you do not yet know, and the appetite to learn it
- Fresh graduates are welcome — we have trained good teachers from scratch before
How to Apply
One email is the whole application
There is no portal, no form and no fee. Write to the office, and a person reads it.
Email your CV
Write to info@stjohnshsschoolbarama.com with your CV attached as a PDF, and name the post and subject in the subject line. Applications are accepted round the year.
A call from the office
If your profile fits a present or expected vacancy, the office will call you to talk through the post, the classes and the timetable.
Interview & demo class
Teaching candidates take a short demonstration lesson before the Principal and a subject head. Non-teaching candidates meet the administrator.
Appointment
Selected candidates receive an appointment letter with the post, salary and joining date, and produce their certificates in original at the office.
What to put in the email
An application carrying all of this can be acted on the same day it arrives.
- An updated CV or résumé, attached as a single PDF
- The post you are applying for — subject and classes, if teaching
- Qualifications with year, board or university, and marks
- Teaching or work experience, with the name of each institution
- A phone number the office can reach you on, and your present address
- Scanned certificates and testimonials, if you have them ready
