Vision & Mission

Why St. John's exists

Every school does many things; a good school knows why. Our vision, mission and values put words to what Barama has seen us do since 1985.

Our Vision

A generation of young people from Barama who are thorough in learning, upright in character and generous in spirit — confident to take their place anywhere in the world, and caring enough to light the way for others.

Our Mission

To provide a complete, affordable education from the primary classes to Higher Secondary — sound academics, honest games and firm values — in partnership with the parents and community of Baksa district.

In Practice

Four commitments we keep daily

A mission is only as good as its habits. These are ours.

Teach thoroughly

Deliver the SEBA and AHSEC curricula with rigour and care, so every student leaves each class genuinely ready for the next.

Grow the whole person

Give equal room to games, art, music and public speaking — the places where character is built alongside intellect.

Keep education within reach

Remain a school the families of Barama and Baksa district can afford and trust, with a hostel for those who come from afar.

Form character that lasts

Shape honest, courteous and responsible young people through daily assembly, moral instruction and the example of our teachers.

Our Motto

Let Your Light Shine

The words on our crest ask two things of every Johnian: first, to work until there is something in you worth shining — and then, to shine not for yourself but for the people around you. It is the standard we set in the classroom, on the field and long after our students leave us.
