About Us
Four decades of letting light shine
St. John's H.S. School has served Barama and the surrounding villages of Baksa district since 1985 — a co-educational school that begins with the primary classes and carries its students through the Higher Secondary stage.
Our Story
A school built by its community
St. John's began in 1985 as a modest school with a clear purpose: to give the children of Barama an education equal to any in the state, close to home.
What began with a few classrooms has grown into a full higher secondary school — classrooms across the primary, secondary and higher secondary sections, science laboratories, a library, a playing field and a boys' hostel for students who come from farther away.
Through every change, the essentials have stayed the same: teachers who know their students by name, a discipline that is firm but kind, and the conviction carried in our motto — Let Your Light Shine.

What We Stand For
The values behind the motto
Everything at St. John's — the assembly, the classroom, the field — is shaped by a few convictions we hold firmly.
Every child has light
Our task is to find it and let it shine — in studies, sport, art or character.
Learning with rigour
Honest work, regular assessment and teachers who never settle for less than a student's best.
Kindness and discipline
A firm, fair code of conduct — because respect for others is the first lesson of all.
Rooted, yet reaching
Proud of Barama and Assam, while preparing students for universities and careers anywhere.
Milestones
The journey so far
A short chronology — the full year-by-year record lives on the chronology page.
1985
The first bell rings
St. John's opens its doors in Barama with a handful of classrooms and its founding conviction — that every child carries a light worth kindling.
1990s
Growing with the town
New classrooms, the library and the science laboratories are added as enrolment grows across the primary and secondary sections.
2000s
Higher Secondary recognition
The school extends to the Higher Secondary stage under AHSEC, letting students complete Class XII without leaving Barama.
Today
