Admission at St. John's — the school entrance, the play school, a lesson in progress and students arriving in uniform

Admission

A seat in the classroom, a place in the story

Admissions at St. John's are open for LKG through Class VIII, and for the Higher Secondary section. What follows is the whole of it — how a child is assessed, what to bring, what Class XI asks for, and how fees are paid.

Admissions open

LKG to Class VIII, and Classes XI & XII

Forms and closing dates for each session are notified by the office and on the school notice board. Leave an enquiry and the office will tell you what is open for your child's class.

What We Look For

A combination of aptitude and attitude

The goal of the school is to turn out citizens who excel in the classroom and who also possess the moral principles, character traits and social and ethical values needed to make a constructive contribution to society.

Both are therefore tested during the admissions process. The test does not only evaluate a student's knowledge of the basic courses; it also looks at their aptitude for solving problems. Assessed this way, the child can be judged as a whole person rather than on recall alone.

All castes and creedsBoys and girlsEvery social standing

Registration for the assessment

Four steps, in the order the office works through them.

Step 1

Read, then collect the form

The admission form is bound into the prospectus. Parents are urged to read the prospectus and the material on this website carefully before filling it in.

Step 2

Submit it complete

Hand the completed hard copy in at the school office with the admission fees, within the time frame notified — with recent passport-size colour photographs of the candidate, the father and the mother properly attached.

Step 3

Screening

Only applications found to be entirely complete in all respects are taken forward, after careful examination, to the entrance test or evaluation.

Step 4

Entrance test and interview

Acceptance is contingent on the interview and the entrance exam. Submitting an application does not by itself secure a seat.

Checklist

Documents to submit at the time of admission

Photocopies for the school file; originals brought along for verification.

  • Original report card from the previous school year, and a certificate of graduation or the Transfer Certificate (TC). Without these, no student is admitted from Class UKG onwards.
  • A photocopy of the birth certificate. The original is to be shown for verification only.
  • A current colour photograph of the candidate and their parents, together with passport-size photographs.
  • A copy of the student's Aadhaar card — or the parents' Aadhaar card if the student does not yet have one.

Any discrepancy between the information provided on the application and the supporting documentation will result in the cancellation of the admission.

Higher Secondary

Admission to Classes XI and XII

Entirely on merit, on the strength of the Class X and Class XI record — from any board in the country or abroad.

45%

Minimum in HSLC

A score of 45% or above in the HSLC examination is necessary for admission to Class XI.

What Class XI admission requires

  • Admission is decided exclusively on Class X and Class XI performance, from any board in the country or abroad, entirely on merit — so the grade sheet must be submitted.
  • At the time of admission, both the student and the parents must be present.
  • A transferring student may be admitted only if seats are available.
  • Students from a board other than SEBA must submit the Migration Certificate at the time of admission.
  • The original Transfer Certificate issued by the principal of the last school attended.
  • Self-attested photocopies of the mark sheet, pass certificate, admit card and registration card.
  • A copy of the Aadhaar card.
  • A joint passport-size photograph of the parents, and two passport-size photographs of the candidate.
  • A photocopy of the birth certificate.
